Great news for recycling in town...Waste Management has agreed to provide single-stream recycling bins to replace the ones in the Wal-Mart parking lot previously serviced by Teller County Waste! They'll also be providing a cardboard recycling bin! Yay! Lastly, their recycling station in Divide will be a free facility now. Read 0 Comments... >> |

Spring has arrived, and with it, Munchkin Market is back! This twice-yearly consignment sale of children's clothing, toys, and other items, has always proved enormously popular. Early indications suggest that this spring's sale will continue the trend of shattering records, with even higher numbers of sellers and items than past sales. The new software system (which actually debuted at last fall's sale) is giving the organizers greater insight into what items to expect, too, which helps with planning. For example, there's a large number of cribs expected, no trivial matter when it comes to utilizing the limited floorspace.
The sale runs today from 5-8, Friday from 9-1 and 5-8, and then Saturday is half price day (all items are, you guessed it, half price), 9-1. Proceeds benefit the non-profit MOPS group; more details on the sale can be found at their website. Read 0 Comments... >> |

Woodland Park celebrated Earth Day by closing its only recycling center, the drop-off bins at WalMart. Apparently too many people were using them to dump general garbage, ruining this for everyone. Your least expensive option now is to sign up with Teller County Waste for curbside garage collection, and they'll also then take mixed recyclables from you. Hazardous waste still needs to be taken down to Colorado Springs like always. Read 0 Comments... >> |

There's currently a bit of a land rush on now, as people reserve their place in line for appliance rebates as part of the latest 'cash for clunkers' economic stimulus program. Not surprisingly, though, Colorado's website is ill-equipped to handle the volume and is having problems. They've created a new splash page at rebate.rechargecolorado.com that directs people to rebate.rechargecolorado.com/Appliance.aspx, but that new address doesn't work - just sends you back to the splash page. This is because they made a typo, the correct address should have a LOWERCASE 'a' in Appliance. Follow this link.
UPDATE - looks like it's been fixed. No problem, I secured my refrigerator rebate, time to ditch that old, inefficient hulk! Read 0 Comments... >> |

In the April 6th election, voters rejected the proposed sales tax hike that would fund a new recreation center in town. Steve Randolph was reelected mayor, and Eric Smith, David Turley, and Terry Harrison won seats on the city council. More in the Gazette. Read 0 Comments... >> |

Last year's Easter Egg hunt at Memorial Park proved to be a bit large for that venue, so this year it'll be at the high school instead, Saturday, April 3rd. Doors open at 9:00 (not sure if this will be indoors or out, though). The hunt for kids ages 1-4 will start at 10, ages 4-8 at 11, 8 and up after that. Read 0 Comments... >> |
