Christmas Tree Recycling

Well, Christmas is over, what to do with the tree?  Thankfully, the city, in conjunction with Teller County Waste and Rocky Top Resources, is offering FREE Christmas tree recycling.  Remove all decorations (including tinsel!), then dump it in the dumpster located behind City Hall, just off Lake street.  This service will be available from December 28th through January 12th.

Winter Day At The Park

This Friday, from 3-5, will be the 'Winter day at the park' at Memorial Park sponsored by the Parks and Rec board (and various local businesses).  This family event will feature a campfire (with marshmallows to roast, of course), hot chocolate, and cider, all at no cost.  Bring ice skates, sleds, whatever you've got, to have some fun.

Christmas tree cutting permits official went on sale earlier this week, but today's the day when most will actually get out and start hunting down that perfect Christmas tree.  With the weather forecast looking bleak for Sunday, you can expect today (Saturday) to be very busy up there!  Permits are on sale at the middle school parking lot like usual.

Petition Distribution Help Needed for YMCA project

Volunteers are needed to help distribute petitions to get the YMCA project on the ballot next April.  There's a meeting this Thursday.  Read the rest of this post to see a copy of the letter sent out regarding this.

 

UPDATE - the meeting has been canceled, due to delays in the legal review of the petition.  When the petitions are ready, more will be posted here and on the official Facebook group page.

WP School District Faces Budget Cuts

The school district is facing a large $1.2M budget shortfall for next year, which is about a 6% decrease.  They're looking at ways to cut the budget or raise new fees (such as bussing) to help cover the shortfall.  Read more in the Gazette.

Free H1N1 Vaccination Clinic

Next Tuesday, 11/17, there will be a no-cost vaccination clinic at the Woodland Park High School from 4-8PM.  Eligible for this are your typical high risk groups, which I think everyone's read all about in the news by now!  Consent forms, and more information, can be found here.
